Ruta del Che

Starting in Samaipata you will be picked up at your hotel at 9:00.  First we drive the 150 Km to Valle Grande, partly on tarmac and partly on dirt-roads.  Around lunchtime we arrive and depending on the weather we either have lunch in town, or pick up some stuff to have a picnic in the mountains.

We continue the drive on narrow mountain-roads with nice views and great scenery.  In Pucara, a tiny picturesque village we can make a short stop, but we want to arrive at the "Quebrada del Churro" around 16:00.   This canyon was the place were Che and his remaining men were ambushed by the military.  We visit the place of this final battle and explain all that has happened.

Then we move on to La Higuera were we check into the "Casa del Telegrafista",  a very nice little hotel.

If there is still enough light (there is not always electricity in town) we visit the school-building where Che was held during the night.  Wander around the tiny town and chat with the people that live here.

For dinner we enjoy the fabulous cooking at the hotel.  They will also prepare our breakfast with fresh baked bread.

After breakfast we visit the school-building if it was too dark the day before, and there is time to take photo's of (and with) several monuments around the tiny plaza.

On the 3 day tour we decent to the Rio Grande, crossing several climate-zones and ending in a hot, dry desert-zone. We have lunch on the suspention-bridge across the river and there is plenty opportunity to swim.  For adventurous people there is the option to decent to the river on a mountain-bike.  In the afternoon we return to La Higuera were we spend the night.

Then it's time to return to Valle Grande where we visit the hospital laundry, the place where the famous photos were taken, and after that we visit the place where Che was secretly buried and which is now a small mausoleum.

We have a lunch in town and return to Samaipata where we will arrive at the end of the day.
