Amboro Fern forest

After a one hour drive into Amboro National Park, we continue on foot.  Unfortunately the terrain is to rough for donkeys so we have to carry everything by ourselves which is a good reason to travel as light as possible.

At first we pass trough some dry forest but soon things change when we enter the cloud forest after a 30 minute walk.  Surrounded by giant ferns, lots of mosses and lykens and beautiful flowers we follow the flank of the mountain slightly uphill until we reach the rim after about 2 hours.  Then it goes down on the other side, deeper and deeper into the park until we leave the cloud forest and are surrounded by achira's and other more sub-tropical plants.

We will have lunch in a small clearing and halfway the afternoon we reach a fantastic viewpoint were we can see the next mountain range towering in front of us.  Close by is the campsite where we will spend the night surrounded by a thousand eyes that reflect in your flashlight.

The next morning we break up camp and, via a different trail, we head towards the "Cero de las Minas" which we can climb if we have enough energy left.  Then via the rim back to where we started and down to the car.

If we go for 3 days we can use the second day to cross the river into the mountains we saw from the viewpoint and explore some canyons.  With 4 days we can even climb to one of the peaks of the "Muela du diablo" (devils-tooth). If you are really an adventurer you could cross part of the park in 5 days but this is extreme stuff.

We will provide you with tents, mattresses and cooking-gear. You need to bring your sleeping bag and water

(and toothbrush etc). We will buy the food together the evening before we leave and split the cost.
