Samaipata, hidden in a shallow valley

This gorgeous little town is hidden in a valley 130 Km from Santa Cruz on the old road to Cochabamba.  At 1600 meters altitude the climate is almost perfect.

Apart from that, it is surrounded by natural beauty in the form of waterfalls (some with white sandy beach), forests, mountains and canyons. 

 

If that is not enough to keep you occupied there is the old Inca city "El Fuerte" and an animal-shelter where you can play with a diversity of local wildlife such as ear-nibbling toucans, cuddling monkeys or squirrels swinging from your hair.

During siesta you can be lazy around the plaza and for lunch or dinner you'll find several high quality, but dirt cheap, restaurants that cater to any taste.
